Lt-Gen Sibanda said this last Friday at a thanksgiving dinner at Army Headquarters under the theme, “Shared vision and smart partnership”.
Senior Government officials, business executives and beneficiaries of the five ZNA charities attended the dinner.
Lt-Gen Sibanda said the army valued working with business.
“It is my hope that you find it in your hearts to continue with this wonderful work which you have done so far to bring some cheer to our widows, orphans and serving members,” he said.
The army commander said US$284 361,29 was raised last year and handed to the five patrons and matrons of the charities. So far this year, US$39 491 has been donated in cash and kind.
“Some pledges made are yet to be honoured and I wish to take this opportunity to appeal to those whose pledges are still outstanding to do so. We will continue working closely with the business community and other stakeholders to improve the welfare of our members and their dependents.”
The five charities are Tsanga Lodge Convalescent Centre, the ZNA Schools and Welfare Trust, the ZNA Benevolent Fund, the ZNA Patients Welfare Fund and the ZNA Widows and Orphans Benevolent Fund.
These charities are funded through the Commander’s Charity Ball, the Executive Interaction Initiative, the ZNA Family Show and the ZNA Charity Race, which is held annually at Borrowdale Race Course in Harare.
Recipients of the donations gave testimonies of how the assistance had helped them.
Angela Masiya, an orphan who is a beneficiary of the Schools Welfare Trust, said: “I am grateful for the assistance you all gave us in paying my school and examination fees.
“You invested in us and we are not going to disappoint you.”
Mrs Selina Chitsima, who was widowed in 2009, expressed her gratitude saying; “I thank the ZNA and organisations that chipped in with help since my husband died. I plead with them to continue with their unwavering support.”
