THE Commander 1 Infantry Brigade Fun Shoot made a return yesterday after a 10-year absence with the event set to be held on an annual basis. The provincial fun shoot was held at the Wollandale Range in Matopo, Matabeleland South yesterday with over 100 participants from both the Zimbabwe National Army and civilians taking part. Civilian participants included pupils from the Falcon College Shooting Club, who dominated the event scooping most of the prizes while companies represented included Nyaradzo Funeral Assurance, FMC, FBC, Kreamon Investments, PSMAS and Moonlight Funeral Assurance.

Security companies, Safeguard, Fawcett and Peace Security also sent their personnel to the shoot that lasted the whole day and saw entrants taking part in three events, AK-47 Individual, PKM Team Shoot and the Falling Plates.

Commander of 1 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier-General Augustine Chipwere said they were pleased with the turnout at the event considering it was last held 10 years ago. He said they are looking forward to reviving it and hopefully it can be turned into an annual event that brings together military and civilians.

The fun shoot begins at provincial level with all provinces expected to host their own events which culminate in the national event. Brig-Gen Chipwere said the shooting event is also used as a fundraising tool for the national fun shoot, ZNA Charities and another charity selected by civilian participants.

The national shoot will this year be held in September in Victoria Falls along with a golf tournament.
