THE 2025 Certa-Cito Competitions, hosted by the Zimbabwe National Army, commenced yesterday (Monday) at Marymount Teachers College in Mutare.
This five-day event, running until Friday, brings together various infantry brigades from all 10 provinces, competing in a range of sports, including football, basketball, tennis, pool, and darts.
The competitions aim to enhance organisational cohesion and promote a winning spirit through sports, aligning with the ZNA’s training objectives for the year.
The opening ceremony was graced by Brigadier General Arnold Gumbo of the 3 Infantry Brigade.
Brigadier General Gumbo emphasised the significance of the Certa-Cito motto – Swift and Sure – highlighting its relevance to the critical mission of the signals corps in delivering information with accuracy and speed.
“Embracing the Certa-Cito motto, ‘Swift and Sure’, is crucial for our signals corps. These competitions showcase not only athletic prowess, but also teamwork, strategic thinking, and specialised skills under pressure. Let us uphold these values and strive for excellence in all we do,” said Brigadier General Gumbo.

His address resonated with the core values of the ZNA, emphasising discipline, camaraderie, and resilience.
He also encouraged all participants to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, reminding them that while victory is desirable, the journey, teamwork, and bonds formed are of greater importance.
The Certa-Cito Competitions serve as a testament to the ZNA’s commitment to maintaining physical fitness, mental resilience, and unity among its personnel.
As the event unfolds over the next few days, it is expected to not only showcase athletic excellence, but also strengthen the bonds that unite the men and women in the military.
