THE Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has urged Harare residents not to panic at the increased presence of soldiers and military equipment around the city as it is conducting a major field exercise.
The exercise will be carried out in areas that include Glen Norah, Glen View, Kuwadzana, Dzivaresekwa, Mt Hampden and Westgate.
It started on Tuesday and ends on Friday.
In a statement, ZNA Director of Public Relations, Colonel Hlengiwe Dube, said residents should go about their business as this is only a field exercise to test personnel and equipment to ensure combat readiness.
“The Zimbabwe National Army wishes to inform the public that one of its units is conducting a field exercise in the period from June 3 to 6 in Harare,” read part of the statement.
“The exercise will be conducted during the day and will not affect the public’s daily routine,” he said.
“The public is therefore requested not to panic as the exercise is a routine training by the Zimbabwe National Army and its units.”
Col Dube said Solomon Mujuru Road, formerly Kirkman Road, is being used to carry out the exercise.
