ZNA to upscale farming activities

THE Zimbabwe National Army Headquarters 1 Infantry Brigade in Bulawayo is set to upscale its farming activities in and around the city and is grateful for support received from various departments of the army.

This was said by the Brigadier-General Thomas Moyo, the Commander of 1 Infantry Brigade, during a Christmas party for army personnel yesterday.

He said the ZNA had started a number of agricultural projects to this effect.

“The Brigade has a cattle rearing project at the Brigade farm in Marula. There is also a poultry project at the Brigade Farm 2. We intend to expand an existing piggery project that is also existent there,” said Brig-Gen Moyo.

He said the Brigade had about 7,5 hectares of land that have been put under maize and they recently opened a butchery.

“We opened a butchery recently and although these projects are still in their infancy, they are among other successes that the Brigade enjoys today,” he said.

Guest of honour at the event, Chief of Staff (Administration) Major-General Trust Mugoba was applauded for the support he gave to the Brigade in securing a submersible water pump from FMC Financial Services. Maj-Gen Mugoba said 1 Infantry Brigade had the mandate of guaranteeing security in the Matabeleland region in order to provide a conducive environment for socio-economic development and protection of vital interests in the region.

“In fulfillment of this mandate the Brigade undertakes various tasks either independently or in support of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and these include border control operations, guarding of key installations, protection of cultural sites as well as community assistance in the region,” he said.

In the area of community assistance, the Brigade handed over a girl’s dormitory at Usher Girl’s High School and they assisted with flooring, roofing and plastering of two classroom blocks at Mbonqane Primary School in Solusi. The Brigade also helped roof and plaster Siansundu Clinic in Binga.

Maj-Gen Mugoba also thanked the spouses of the ZNA officers for their unwavering support of the Brigade’s activities.
