THE Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has warned the public against bogus recruitment agents masquerading as soldiers facilitating recruitment into the army, fleecing people of their money.
This comes after a lot of job seekers have been duped by these fake recruitment agents across the country.
ZNA said they were worried with the rise in cases of bogus recruitment agents purporting to be ZNA employees.
“The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has noted with great concern the continued increase in the number of fraud cases involving bogus soldiers masquerading as recruiting officers,” ZNA said in a statement.
“The ZNA is voicing these concerns because we have been issuing several warnings and notices in both print and electronic media.
“As from April this year, the ZNA has issued a number of warnings to members of the public to be on the lookout for bogus recruiting agents who are prowling in the streets, duping potential recruits of their hard earned money on the pretext of facilitating their recruitment into the ZNA.”
ZNA said despite the warnings, in May this year, a fraudster only identified as Chimombe alias Lieutenant George, duped potential recruits Brian Ncube and Victor Hanembuya of US$140 and US$135 respectively after promising that he would facilitate their recruitment into the ZNA.
“In May 2022, the ZRP arrested a serial fraudster, Tsikwa Chitepo, in Harare for defrauding several army potential recruits of varying amounts of cash,” said ZNA.
ZNA recently disowned a fake letter which circulated on social media platforms purported to have been from Commander ZNA Lieutenant General David Sigauke alleging that JB Family Electronics, a company operating illegally in Mbare was an events’ sponsor and donor.
