ZNCC honours excelling businesspeople

Mr Tawanda Mutyebere, chief executive officer of Contools (Pvt) Ltd, a company he founded and which owns fastfoods outlets trading under the name Chicken Slice, Creamy Slice and Pizza Slice emerged the top businessman at a presidential dinner during the ZNCC annual congress in Victoria Falls last week.

Vice-President Mujuru was the guest of honour at the dinner and presented the awards.

Bulawayo businessman Rajesh Modi of Sai Enterprises which runs Bellevue Spa was the first runner-up while Kwekwe entrepreneur Mr Sebastian Mukewa, the managing director of Mukewa Supermarket was second runner-up.

The managing director of Unilever Zimbabwe Ms Nancy Guzha was adjudged to be the businesswoman of the year.

Reigning Bulawayo ZNCC businesswoman of the year Mrs Similo Mpala was second in the national finals. As managing director of Mpala Group, she is responsible for IT company Spurs Technology, Mpala Boutique Hotel and an events management company, Events Xtra Ordinaire.

A Chiredzi transport operator Mrs Winnie Marange was the second runner-up. She was recognised for the way she transformed her company, Fairline Investments from a single truck company to one with 55 trucks.

Binga businessman Mr Misheck Mpofu was voted the Rural Businessperson of the Year. He owns Biya Enterprises which runs supermarkets in Matabeleland North and Mr Nzumaseke Gonye of Chipinge was the runner-up.

In the Social Corporate Responsibility category, Mbada Diamonds was chosen the winner for the role it was playing in transforming lives of people in its area of operation, in particular refurbishment of roads and ensuring the local community had access to clean water.

Another mining house, Mimosa Mine of Zvishavane was the first runner-up in recognition of assistance it had given to Kapota School of the Blind in Zimuto and Dadaya Mission where it built a workshop and classroom and administration block respectively.

ZNCC president Mr Oswell Binha said the awards were meant to reward excellence in the business sector.

“Annually we recognise few of the businesspeople who would have excelled,” he said.
