THE Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC), Manicaland Chapter, has appointed a new provincial manager to lead membership recruitment and strengthen its role as the voice of business in the province.
ZNCC provincial chairperson, Ms Rumbidzai Masara, announced the appointment of Ms Nyasha Kahondo, who was previously with Mustard Seed Advisory.
She fills the vacancy left by the late Ms Perpetua Guwila.
Ms Masara said Ms Kahondo was tasked with raising business concerns and increasing membership.
She said ZNCC has of late been known mainly for holding awards ceremonies for members.
“We are glad to have appointed a new manager for ZNCC Manicaland Chapter. Our expectation is that she should focus on the thrust to drive and strengthen the primary function of the chamber. The function is to represent, lobby, promote and advocate for interests of its members in Manicaland. ZNCC is the voice of the business, hence we want her to ensure that the views and concerns of business are effectively represented.
“Manicaland is experiencing a significant growth in new businesses across all sectors. We have seen an emergence of new enterprises, be it mining, manufacturing and Small-to-Medium Enterprises. This shows that we have significant potential in increasing our membership by bringing these businesses to the chamber and providing them with a platform for engagement and growth.
“We do not want to lose our focus and just concentrate with awards. We are going to be hosting more breakfast meetings, seminars and improve visibility. Ms Kahondo is going to lead us in this direction,” she said.
The role of ZNCC in provinces is to promote business growth, represent the interests of the private sector and connect businesses with Government and other stakeholders.
It advocates for policies that improve the business environment, supports entrepreneurship, encourages investment and helps companies overcome operational challenges.
At provincial level, ZNCC facilitates dialogue between businesses and provincial authorities, gathers concerns from members, promotes networking and identifies opportunities for trade and industrial development. It also supports SMEs through information sharing, training and business development initiatives.
Through its provincial structures, ZNCC helps to ensure that businesses outside major cities have a voice in national economic policy discussions. It promotes local economic development, encourages formalisation of businesses and helps members understand regulatory requirements.
