THE Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC) has embarked on a sexual reproductive and health information dissemination programme targeting people at plantations in Manicaland.
ZNFPC is educating plantation workers on promoting family planning, adolescent sexual reproductive health and life skills.
ZNFPC provincial marketing and communications officer Mr Daniel Maromo said the programme had produced positive results.
Mr Maromo said there were plans to reach out to plantations in Nyanga, Mutasa, Chipinge and Chimanimani. Since most clinics in these communities have closed, resulting in most people travelling long distances to get medical help, this has greatly affected the health of the people, he said.
A number of people in plantations could be infected with STIs and young women are having unwanted pregnancies. That is why we opted to offer these services to ensure such calamities do not affect them.
Mr Maromo said they were trying to reach out to both youths and adults. We intent to visit these communities to deliver our services quarterly every year, he said.
Mr Maromo said on their first visit to some areas, they witnessed a remarkable uptake of condoms, as well as long-acting reversible contraceptives such as jadelle and intrauterine contraceptive device.
