afternoon at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare and was buried at West Park Cemetery in Bulawayo on Monday.
He served the President’s Office for more than 15 years.
His elder brother Mr Pono Zondo said he died after a long battle with meningitis.
“It started as a headache and I think he delayed getting medical attention. The doctors, however, said it was meningitis,” said Mr Pono Zondo.
Cde Zondo was born on 28 January 1963 in Donkwe-Donkwe in Kezi. He started his primary education at Donkwe-Donkwe.
At the height of the armed struggle in 1979, the 16-year-old Zondo crossed into Botswana to join the liberation struggle.
When the ceasefire was declared later on in 1979, Cde Zondo returned home in 1980 and continued with his education at Matopo High School and Mpopoma High School before reading for a degree in Political Science and Administration at the University of Zimbabwe.
When he completed his studies, he briefly worked in the Public Service Commission before joining the President’s Office in the early 1990s where he worked until the time of his death.
Cde Zondo was given an emotional send off at a funeral service attended by hundreds of mourners who included senior Government officials from the President’s Office Department.
He is survived by his wife Bertha and two children – Kukhanya and Nkosiphile.
