ZIMBABWE-owned, South Africa-based funeral Services Company Zororo Phumulani have committed a R50 000 payout for the Gems should they win their opening World Cup fixture against giants Australia here this morning.
Playing in their second straight Netball World Cup, having debuted in England four years ago, Zimbabwe will be hoping to better their eighth place finish this time around.
But they have to make a statement in their opening tie against a side that has been close to flawless in this game over the years.
The Gems are firmly up for the task with Zororo Phumulani putting R50 000 on the table for their victory.
The company also donated an assortment of equipment in a morale-boosting move for the ladies.
Zororo-Phumulani Western Cape Regional manager Admire Murefu said his company has decided to chip in and motivate the girls.
“This is not the first time that we are coming in for the sake of our Gems.
“We have done a lot together including in the Diamond Challenge Cup in Pretoria last year.
“I would say this is a continuation of a very solid relationship that the company has with the national netball team,” said Murefu.
“We have decided to come again and donate some equipment, some of which they would take back home, in order to try and motivate them.
“And we have put together some R50 000 as a winning bonus for them in the match against Australia tomorrow (today).
“The company will be chipping in with more incentives in this tournament.
“This is the first Netball World Cup to be staged in Africa and Zimbabwe should walk tall and make us proud.
“And this is our small way of trying to motivate the girls to go out there and fight.
“We will be paying for some fans to go and cheer the team as well so we are really up on the ground, playing our own small part to try and drive the girls to the Promised Land”.
And the gesture has been welcomed by the team with Elizabeth Mushore daring to dream.
The talented Platinum Queens player said although Australia is a big team, Zimbabwe can still outwit them.
“The gesture by Zororo Phumulani is a huge boost for us.
“You know getting into a World Cup and getting all this support is what we need as the players,” she said.
“We are going to leave everything on the court when we face Australia.
“You know they are a very big team capable of beating everyone in the world but that doesn’t mean that we will be bystanders.
“We need to step into the court with a positive mind knowing that we are not representing ourselves only but the whole country”.
