ZPC disconnect FC Platinum

IT needed an old hand to stop an FC Platinum side that had gone for over a year without tasting a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League defeat.

Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa showed why he is the most successful coach in Zimbabwe as his ZPC Kariba ended Norman Mapeza’s 28-game unbeaten run at Mandava Stadium yesterday.

Never Tigere smashed home an 87th minute free kick that condemned FC Platinum to their first league defeat since May 10, 2015 and propelled ZPC Kariba to second on the log.

The hosts went ahead in the 17th minute through midfield general Winston Mhango, but ZPC Kariba equalised three minutes from half-time via a Tawanda Nyamandwe header.

ZPC Kariba veteran forward Limited Chikafa had his effort ruled out for offside but the Electricians regrouped and posted the biggest result of the season so far.

Chidzambwa, who thought Chikafa’s goal should have stood, is – however – not reading much into the victory.

“There is nothing much to celebrate about, we are taking this as any other victory,” he said. “We have to keep our feet on the ground, approach each game as it comes and see what happens. My boys defended well, there was a good balance in our style but I must admit FC Platinum are a very tough side.”

Mapeza demanded a response from his boys.

“I knew it would happen one day. When a game is evenly balanced usually set pieces decide the match. We had chances but failed to make use of them. We did not defend well their corner kick. We will move forward and we need to show character and bounce back “said Norman MapezaZPC Kariba are now on 18 points, two behind log leaders FC Platinum who play defending champions Chicken Inn in Bulawayo next weekend.

Meanwhile, How Mine were held to a 1-all draw by Tsholotsho FC at White City yesterday.

Collins Dhuwa scored for Tsholotsho before Tsepo Rantokoane equalised for the gold miners.
