The late Lindile Dube who died in December coached the team.
In a telephone interview from his Hwange base, ZPC Hwange secretary-general Gaylord Madhunguza, said Dube left a squad that was capable of winning the championship.
“What we realised is that for us or any team to win the championship you need to have a strong squad that can stand the heat from the first to the last game of the season. That squad needs somebody to guide them through. That person will be fully responsible for the team and will be free to call players that he wants, provided that we agree on financial terms.
“Already, we have a team which was left by Dube and we believe the squad is capable of winning the league but whoever will be the coach, will have a look at the players and make his own decision,” said Madhunguza.
Madhunguza said they were looking for a holder of a Level Three or better coaching certificate to take the head coach’s job.
Other requirements are that the aspiring gaffer should have coached two clubs in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League and have five years coaching experience.
Madhunguza could not be drawn into commenting on the coaches that they were said to have identified for the vacant position.
Sources have linked former Njube Sundowns, Zimbabwe Saints and Chicken Inn coach Philani ‘Beefy’ Ncube and veteran Anderson Phiri to the job.
Zimbabwe Saints are reportedly courting Ncube.
ZPC Hwange will have to prepare for a tough championship battle against clubs such as Bantu Rovers, Zimbabwe Saints, Railstars, How Mine and Emakhandeni Pirates among others.
