ZPC Kariba will come up against Herentals in the opening match of the Chibuku Super Cup Group One second round at the National Sports Stadium this morning.

The match kicks-off at 11am.

The two sides are on six and two points respectively after six games. Godfrey Tamirepi, the ZPC Kariba coach, said other clubs can rule them out at their own peril.

“We are still hopeful and anything can happen in football. I cannot say it’s over yet, especially coming into this second round, of fixtures. “We are bigger than Herentals and we need to show that by beating them.

“Everyone is geared up for the clash and it was unfortunate that we did not do according to expectations, in the first round fixtures, which I think we can make up on that now.

“We have had three weeks of preparations and we need to put all the efforts to good use,” said Tamirepi.

Kauya Katuruturu, as the club are affectionately known have some injury issues, in their camp. The team will have to do without three key players, who are injured, while Collen Mleya is out on suspension.

“The trio of Tapiwa Matongo, Takunda Makwiri and Kudzanai Nyamupfukudza will be out of this fixture.

“I think it will also be good for those we will put into the fray as they can prove themselves.

“It is an opportunity to give other players a chance and they will rise to the occasion as this is what we signed them for,” added Tamirepi.

Herentals coach, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, believes they still have a chance to turn the tables, in the second round, of the Chibuku Super Cup. Group One also has seasoned campaigners Dynamos, CAPS United, Yadah and Harare City. After managing a 0-0 draw against leaders Dynamos, and the same scoreline against ZPC Kariba, Herentals suffered defeats to all their other opponents, in the opening round. “I think we have a chance to bounce back and make an impact. We had some challenges, to adjust soon after the first lockdown, but now everyone is in good spirits.

“We were just unfortunate, and it’s part of the game, and I am looking forward to the match against ZPC Kariba.

“The first match was tense and we were both unfortunate not to score but I think we have rectified that,” said Mutiwekuziva.
