ZPC Kariba coach Darlington Dodo is delighted with the way his team has started the season after picking up their second set of maximum points with the victory over Triangle at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

The side has now amassed seven points in four Castle Lager Premiership matches.

Exciting right winger Tinotenda Chiunye made the difference with a 32nd minute strike. The former Dynamos and CAPS United star atoned for a miss at the half hour mark when he fluffed a good opportunity to put his team into the lead.

But this time around he got it right, latching onto a ball that was delivered from the left.

The 23-year-old midfielder was a marvel to watch with his mazy runs and was deservedly named the man of the match.

He is one of the young players to look out for this season.

ZPC Kariba gaffer Dodo was happy to bounce back to winning ways after recovering from the 1-0 defeat by CAPS United at the same venue last weekend.

Before that they had won with a similar margin against Bulawayo Chiefs. In their opening league match they played a goalless draw against giants Highlanders at their Barbourfields fortress.

“We have started well this season and the confidence is growing. The boys are now believing and that is exactly what we wanted, a good start and the confidence will grow.

“I think it’s a fair start, we have started well and want to keep on doing that,” said Dodo.

ZPC Kariba are playing their home game at the National Sports Stadium after their Nyamhunga home ground failed to meet the requirements during the pre-season stadium inspections.

They had a good first half and by the time the visitors found their footing and tried to claw back into the game, the damage had already been done.

“We won it in the first half. We came with a very good attitude. All these other games, our first half performance was not very good but today we were good.

“We were probing the opponents, we attacked, we created the opportunities and some we could not just convert. If we had converted in the first half, we could have scored more than one goal which was good for us,” he said.

Triangle lost a match for the first time this season having managed two consecutive goalless draws against Ngezi Platinum and Manica Diamonds. They managed to beat Herentals in the opening match at Gibbo stadium.

Triangle assistant coach Thomas Ruzive said they are still rebuilding a new side.

“Considering this is a new team and we are playing away from home, I think the guys did very well and just slept on the wheel in the early minutes.

“Their approach to the game in the early minutes was our main problem because they were very slow in their reaction.

The hosts were the better side in the first half penetrating the defence of the visitors.
