The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) family week commenced on Monday and will run until Sunday.
This year’s theme is “Rehabilitation – A Collective Responsibility.” The program allows families, friends, and siblings to visit their loved ones at various prison stations between 9AM and 3PM.
During the week, visitors can enjoy braai (tshisanyama) with their loved ones, and up to 10 visitors per inmate per day are permitted.
The department’s objective is to promote family bonds, emotional support, and successful rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates.
The prisons participating in the family week include: Beitbridge Prison, Gwanda Prison, Plumtree Prison, Filabusi Prison, Kezi Prison – Esigodini Prison, Beitbridge Farm Prison and Gwanda Farm Prison
Visitors are advised to bring their National Identity documents and are not allowed to bring cooked food from outside the prison premises. However, food and refreshments will be sold inside the prison.
