The partnership between Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services (ZPCS) and Africa Grain Seed (AGS), which invested 16 000 vegetable seedlings and 100 citrus trees will boost the nutrition of prisoners.
Speaking during the recent handover of the seedlings and trees at Harare Central Prison, ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu said the partnership would be extremely useful.
Deputy Commissioner-General Social Ndanga said the investment was very timely.
“We appreciate the investment which is coming on board. We will see value addition to the nutrition of inmates. We value the partnership very much it is coming with a host of things including free dental care,” he said.
AGS president and KamPay director Mr Anthony Denga said the firm’s vision was in line with the Pan African Vision 2063.
“We will continue to work on structuring agri-fin solutions with local and international partners to address food security and socio-economic issues through our investments in the marginalised communities of SADC,” he said.
AGS vice president Mrs Zandile Nozinhle Matiwaza-Denga said they have come together with partners to assist communities, mostly in rural areas and with institutions like ZPCS.
“We understand that Zimbabwe is not in need of more donors, but partners and collaborations. We have come to collaborate, partner with ZPCS and we will be offering agri-tech solutions.”
