ZPCS officer earns World Athletics bronze officiating qualification

CHIEF Correctional Officer (CCO), Cousinet Simunyu, of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, Manicaland Province, has attained the World Athletics Referees Education and Certification System Bronze Level qualification.

Simunyu, the provincial sports officer, was among 12 candidates from Africa who passed the international examination.

A total of 119 candidates sat for the exam worldwide, including 72 from Africa. Of the 12 successful African candidates, seven are from Zimbabwe.

The WARECS Bronze Level is the entry point into international athletics officiating and qualifies holders to officiate at regional, continental and global competitions.

It also opens the way to appointment to Southern African Development Community, Confederation of African Athletics and World Athletics area events.

Officer Commanding Manicaland Province, Spetosomusa Chinobva, described the achievement as a proud moment for the Service.

“This outstanding achievement is a true testament to your dedication, discipline and unwavering commitment to excellence,” said Chinobva.

“You have not only brought honour to yourself, but you have also brought pride to the ZPCS and the entire Manicaland Province. Your success serves as an inspiration to us all and a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work, perseverance and passion,” she added. Simunyu began her athletics journey in 2004 through provincial coaching and officiating courses before earning national certifications in 2006.
