ZPCS rolls out Covid-19 awareness campaign

Masvingo Bureau
THE Zimbabwe Prisons Correctional Services (ZPCS) yesterday rolled out its provincial Covid- 19 awareness campaign at Mutimurefu Prison.

ZPCS Officer Commanding Masvingo Province, Senior Assistant Commissioner Social Ndanga said the province has not yet recorded any Covid-19 cases among inmates, while the four prison officers who recently tested positive have since recovered. He said awareness campaigns will be rolled out to all the prisons across the province.

Snr Asst-Comm Ndanga said the ZPCS has established station and provincial Covid-19 response teams to help contain the spread of the disease.

“There are no positive Covid-19 cases among our inmates. Only four prison officers tested positive and have since recovered,” said Snr Asst-Comm Ndanga.

He said the teams are, however, facing a litany of challenges, which include critical shortage of fuel and inadequate personal protective equipment.

He applauded the Voluntary Services Organisation and the corporate world for their humanitarian assistance to Masvingo prisons.
