ZPCS to conduct family week

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Mashonaland East Province will hold a family week programme starting tomorrow, Monday August 19 to August 25, 2024, to allow inmates and their relatives to interact and build positive relations.

ZPCS Mashonaland East Provincial public relations officer Principal Correctional Officer Pamela Harris said relatives who intend to visit their loved ones are required to bring national identity cards or valid passports for them to allowed into the correctional facilities.

“As ZPCS Mashonaland East Province we will be holding a family week programme,” she said. “Visits commence from August 19 to 25, 2024.The visiting  hours are from 9 am to 3.30 pm. No cooked food shall be allowed on health grounds.

“However, relatives may bring braai packages while at the correctional facilities we will be providing fresh food on sale.

“The family week program in correctional facilities is designed to strengthen the bond between incarcerated individuals and their families.” she said the programme includes various activities that allow inmates to spend time with their relatives , friends spouses and children in a natural environment. “The primary goal of such programs is to promote family unity, support rehabilitation efforts, and reduce recidivism rates by fostering positive relationships,” she said.
