The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Bulawayo Metropolitan Province is set to host the Commissioner General’s Goodwill Trust Fund Half Marathon and Burn Out session at ZKS Spinners Arena on November 1.
Established in 2011, the Trust Fund supports orphans of deceased officers, widows, widowers, as well as officers injured on duty or discharged from service due to health reasons.
As part of fundraising efforts, ZPCS has partnered with ZKS Spinners Arena to stage an action-packed day of motorsport and family fun. The event will feature top spinning acts, including Team Amakhosi, Ben AK47, The Rock, Mastanda and Malinga.
Chief Correctional Officer Garainashe Moyo, ZPCS Bulawayo Metropolitan Province spokesperson, stated that they expect over 2,000 attendees.
“This year, our events are running under the theme, ‘Burning Rubber for Charity’. Hosting the burnout session is new to our system, and we are excited to host an event of this calibre at the arena,” said Moyo.
“We’ll kick off with the Half Marathon at 7 AM, followed by burnouts from 2 PM. We encourage everyone to come out and support this family-friendly event.”
Zakhele “Zakes” Mlilo, director of ZKS Spinners Arena and member of the prison board of visitors for Bulawayo, endorsed the collaboration.
“When we established the arena in 2023, we realised that the Khami Prison complex is our neighbour. Both of us work with people — we provide entertainment, while the prison focuses on rehabilitation. This shared purpose opened doors for meaningful collaboration,” said Mlilo.
“The event is our way of giving back. All proceeds will go directly to the prison’s account, supporting the Trust Fund and its initiatives. Beyond this, we’ll continue partnering with ZPCS to generate income through the sale of products produced by inmates, including agricultural produce and livestock.”
The Commissioner General’s Goodwill Trust Fund has previously assisted over 20 orphans in Bulawayo with school fees, uniforms and food hampers.
