ZRP Criminal Investigators based at Beitbrigde Bridge border post have intercepted a contraband of dagga and cough syrup that was smuggled into the country from South Africa.
The Acting police officer commanding Beitbridge district Superintendent Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident but could not give further details.

“We can confirm such an incident happened. Given that investigations are still ongoing I’m not at liberty to furnish you with details regarding the types and quantity of drugs,” he said.
However, a source close to the investigations said the South Africa registered vehicle was intercepted on Tuesday and it was found to be carrying 134 boxes of dagga each valued at US$360, and 340 boxes of benylin cough syrup with each box valued at U$230.
The source said the driver escaped and ran away. The official said following further searches they discovered another consignment of mbanje packed in small sachets and cartoons of Benlyn cough syrup that were hidden in a compartment of the trailer.
