IN the absence of last year’s winner Equina, punters could be tempted to place their wager on Casey’s Dance as eight equine athletes are saddled in for the running of the seventh edition of the Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioners’ Fillies Charity at Borrowdale racecourse tomorrow.
The in-form filly Equina has been rested by trainer Lisa Harris but the yard’s top contender would be the four-year old chestnut Mullins Bay offspring in the 1600m race.
On her last sprint on September 14, the filly Casey’s Dance beat Gentle Brook (1) by half a lens over 1200m and Harris will pray that her runner will push again in the extra distance and added weight of half a kilogramme.
Casey’s Dance won the last event carrying 57kgs but will have 57.5kgs in this race. Coming as number two on the card, Casey’s Dance has won three of last five runs, while getting a place in the fourth.
Jockey Randall Simmons will hold the straps while the bare mare Gentle Brook by Arm Bronkhorst should be not be taken lightly as the five-year old bare filly seeks a positive finish in the feature race.
The ZRP Charity race will be supported by seven other events.
