POLICE in Mashonaland East province are intensifying campaigns against drug and substance abuse and other criminal activities in communities.
Recently, the police met traditional and political leaders from Hwedza, as well as the public, as they ramped up their campaign against crime.
In an interview with Zimpapers on the sidelines of the awareness campaign, Officer Commanding Police in Mashonaland East, Commissioner Dr Wiklef Makamache, saluted the public for the unwavering support to the police, which is pivotal in the fight against crime.
“We discovered that our main work is not in our offices, but in the community, therefore, we are out in large numbers and we are here in Hwedza meeting people from all walks of life, discussing issues to do with criminal activities and how to stop them. We want a crime-free society,” he said.
“We have crimes of concern in this province, ranging from murder, rape, stock theft, unlawful entry as well as drug and substance abuse. These are the common criminal offences which we discussed in Hwedza.
Chief Ruzane, who also attended the event, implored the public to continue supporting the police with critical information that assists in combating crime.
