Police have launched investigations into an incident that was captured on video in which two men are attacking a suspected mentally challenged person in Bikita.

The victim is accused of uprooting some groundnut plants belonging to the suspect’s mother.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The ZRP has taken note of a social media viral video in which two men are seen brutally attacking a man with a slasher and sticks. The incident occurred in Gocherai Village, Bikita.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim, who is a suspected mental patient, was attacked by the suspects for allegedly uprooting their mother’s groundnuts.

“The suspects are believed to be hiding in Mutare. Investigations are in progress.”
