THE Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) has appointed Cyprian Mandenge as head coach of the Lady Cheetahs.
He replaces Dereck Chawara.
ZRU made the announcement of Mandenge’s appointment on Friday.
“ZRU, would like to announce the appointment of Mandenge as the Zimbabwe National Women’s Sevens Head coach.
“Mandenge comes with a wealth of experience as a rugby coach and administrator having coached National Age Groups, Zimbabwe A team and the Senior Men’s Sables team.
“The Board and the Technical Committee would like to wish Cyprian all the best in his new position,” said ZRU.
The Lady Cheetahs are ranked fourth in Africa.
The team has taken part in regional tournaments such as the Middelburg Sevens in South Africa, the Lusaka Sevens in Zambia, Kwese Sevens in Zimbabwe and performed well.
They have also participated in the Africa Cup and the Olympic qualifiers, with their best performances coming in 2016 when they played in the World Cup qualifiers in Ireland.
Meanwhile, the Young Sables have been drawn in Group A which features their first opponents, Scotland, Uruguay and the qualifying team between Canada and USA who are still to conclude their qualification process. Group B comprises Kenya, the Samoa, Spain, and Hong Kong China. — @innocentskizoe.
