Cape Town — President Jacob Zuma will face questions on the Nkandla judgment when he appears in the National Assembly next Tuesday.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane would ask what steps Zuma, as head of state and Cabinet, would take to ensure the executive complied with its obligations to account to Parliament. Zuma would then have to answer four supplementary questions from other parties relating to the same matter.
The Constitutional Court ruled on March 31 that Zuma violated the Constitution when he failed to adhere to Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s remedial action that he should repay some of the R246m spent on so-called security upgrades to his private homestead.
The African Christian Democratic Party would ask him about an apparent “lack of trust in the judiciary”, while the African Independent Congress would ask him about recent protests and demonstrations.
The ANC intended to ask him about Operation Phakisa and his work with the UN high-level commission on health employment and economic growth and steps to building a cohesive society.
Last Wednesday, Zuma was heckled and called a thief when he presented the Presidency’s budget vote.
The EFF was ejected after they refused to let him speak. They called him an “illegitimate leader”.
The DA called him a “thief and accused criminal”. — Sapa
