THE ZIMBABWE Volleyball Association (ZVA) says it is taking measures to improve the quality of the sport at national level hence its recent appointments of coaches.

In announcing the appointments, the ZVA president Mxolisi Ndlovu said they chose coaches who have capacity and experience.

“The profile of the coaches speaks highly of their experience and expertise,” said Ndlovu.

Notable in the appointments was the elevation of Vulindlela Moyo, a respected personality in the game, who is now technical director of the women’s volleyball.

Moyo has a track record unmatched in volleyball development countrywide.

He has, according to the profile from the ZVA, led to countless victories within the national team, cascading down to regional, club and developmental sides as both coach and player.

Moyo has been the coaches’ national commission chairperson and also the national team coach.

The new national team coach for the women is Eunice Tsvuura who has a Level Two FIVB coaching qualification. She is a former national team captain who is presently working as the assistant coach at Harare City.

Tsvuura is a champion in her right, having achieved a lot at grassroots level of the game. She will be assisted by Tsungiriro Shumba, the team manager.

Shumba is the assistant coach at University of Zimbabwe.

The women’s national team will be managed by Samkeliso Shumba who sits in the Mashonaland West Volleyball Association board.

In the rebound and somewhat deserved appointment, is Itsanang Abu-Basuthu who is the head coach of the national men’s team.

Abu-Basuthu’s trail of success is indisputable for a coach with a FIVB Level 3 coaching qualification. History speaks boldly of his achievements locally.

He will be assisted by Donald Kuzivakwashe Chademana.

The national teams’ manager is Farai Mboto.

Ndlovu said in appointing the technical personnel for the national teams, they were aligning to the ZVA and international standards.

“The men’s head coach has gone through several high performance courses, including FIVB Level Three, which is the highest level in volleyball coaching. He has also done other courses in athlete development which he completed in Slovania. Furthermore, he acquired knowledge on safe sport and coach development programmes as well.

“Having a coach of such pedigree will give us the aspect of good team management, good coaching in line with our strategy of making sure all players must be coached by qualified coaches. We hope the strategy will work and give us the edge in terms of player development, getting the much needed results on court.”

Ndlovu also spoke highly of their choice for the assistant coach.

“Chademana, who is the assistant coach for the men’s team has experience in fitness training. He is a qualified fitness trainer, which will give us an advantage in terms of conditioning the team,” he said.

For the women’s side, Ndlovu said they are happy as the ZVA that they settled for the right people.

“The technical director, Vulindlela Moyo is highly qualified coach as well. He holds the FIVB Level Three badge. Our head coach and her assistants have Level Two and it is their first time to coach at such a high level. So having the technical director in that set up is trying to make a transition where these coaches can get advice from the technical director and also this is in line with our strategy to have women being coached by women,” said Ndlovu.
