FORMER Commonwealth boxing champion Alfonso “Mosquito” Zvenyika’s plans for a sponsored walk from Marondera to Harare on Tuesday have received support after several sponsors chipped in with some funds.

The Mbare-born former pugilist is planning to walk to raise funds for his ailing wife Jesman Zvenyika’s medical bills.

“I urge all those willing to come and join me as I try to raise funds for my wife’s treatment. Things are not going well for me,” he said.

“My wife has been ill since last year and I have already sold some of our property to cover medical bills. I am grateful to well-wishers who have come on board, including Stalin Mau Mau, Chicken House and Pacific 24, among many others.

“I feel humbled by the gesture and I wish them more grace from God. I want to thank everyone for supporting me and wiping my tears.”
