Zvimba Rural District Council has finalised its 15-year masterplan which seeks to complement developments at the new Cyber City.
The plan is now undergoing validation, with stakeholders giving their input on the 40-point plan targeting overall improvement of lives and Infrastructure.
Speaking at the masterplan validation workshop, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo said a masterplan is key in proper management of local authorities.
“Adherence to a well-crafted masterplan is a vital cog in the sound management and fulfilment of a local authority’s true potential,” said Minister Chombo.“I am proud that Zvimba RDC has defied all odds and risen to the challenge.”
Zvimba Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr Enias Chidakwa said the masterplan formulation process was undertaken with local manpower, which ensured efficiency and reduced costs.
Mr Chidakwa said Zvimba identified key people in council and graduate trainees to undertake the process.
“President Mnangagwa realised that there is need for order in our local authorities and as Zvimba, we want order,” said Mr Chidakwa.
“We want to fulfil the aspirations of President Mnangagwa for an upper middle-income society through the National Development Strategy (NDS1).”
The plan is expected to map land use zones and assign economic activities while anticipating future developments.
Among the expected developments are support and complementary infrastructure for the Cyber City, Parliament and Charles Prince Airport, among others.
Council chairperson Councillor Spencer Magaya said stakeholders should pull in one direction to ensure that the masterplan improves the lives of current and future generations.
Chiefs Zvimba, Beperere and Chirau, as well as Zvimba legislators attended the validation workshop.
