Zwane defends Khama Billiat

JOHANNESBURG. — Arthur Zwane has once again defended the form of Zimbabwean striker Khama Billiat and Njabulo Ngcobo amid Kaizer Chiefs’ stuttering start to the South African Premiership football campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs have endured an indifferent start to the 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign where the club currently lies 12th in the league standings and having won just two of their six matches played thus far.

The club’s form has prompted questions over the form of a number of Amakhosi players with senior stars such as Billiat and Ngcobo among the most prominent to be placed under the spotlight in recent times.

Both players enjoyed improved outings during the club’s goalless draw over the weekend against AmaZulu, however, and head coach Zwane was quick to defend their form following the match.

“These are seasoned campaigners and they only need our help as coaches. We are not there to judge them and even the best players in the world sometimes lose form,” Zwane said after the match.

“This is a game of football. People will have a plan for you, they will try to nullify your strengths to weaken you.

“These are two players who will obviously play a prominent role going forward. But not only them, all the players that we have at our disposal deserve a fair chance and that is what we are going to do.

“We are not going to keep players who we do not feel are good enough to be part of the team but all of the players who are there, I think have done enough to be part of the team and will get a fair chance to play.” — KickOff.com
