THE Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League have set up a disciplinary committee in a move that is meant to expedite dispute resolution and bring professionalism to their game.
The ZWPSL have been trying to make their game more attractive and professional in outlook.
And yesterday, they announced the appointment of the judicial committee to be chaired by Harare lawyer and for-mer Dynamos secretary-general Brian Kashangura.
The committee also includes Rejoice Mashaka, Spiwe Chahwanda and the ex-referees duo of Stella Ruvinga and Joseph Mususa.
The disciplinary committee is expected to handle misconduct cases in the league regarding team walk-offs, fan hooliganism and coaching altercations with the hearings expected to penalise clubs, administrators, and technical officials who transgress the statutes.
ZWPSL chairperson Chido Chizondo confirmed the developments citing that the developments come as part of the league’s efforts to set up structures that pave the way for professionalism.
“We are doing this in line with the ZWPSL Constitution which demands that the League should appoint an independent Disciplinary Committee,” she said.
“The committee is expected to oversee and adjudicate on disciplinary matters arising within the league.
“To this effect, the committee has been constituted to ensure fairness, transparency, accountability and adherence to the rules and regulations governing the league.”
It’s mandate in the women’s league context includes handling cases related to misconduct, breaches of league statutes, player and official conduct, club compliance, and any other disciplinary issues brought before the league.
The establishment of an independent body buttresses the league’s commitment to professionalism, integrity and good governance in the administration of women’s football in Zimbabwe.
For a league that has been battling perennial sponsorship challenges, Chizondo said setting up such structures will create a conducive environment that can attract meaningful partnerships.
“Without solid structures, it will be difficult for the league to attract meaningful sponsorship because we will always be found disregarding the constitution while clubs can also violate regulations and there is no one to bring them to book,” added Chizondo.
“To make progress in all these issues and in terms of sponsorship we need to start by creating an image for our game first . . . the first step is to fulfil the dictates of the constitution.
“When we have proper structures then we can go on to talk about everything else including sponsorship because sponsors want to come into an environment that inspires confidence.”
Kashangura’s story is a testament to resilience and determination.
Living with a disability, he garnered national attention during his graduation in 2024 when he was capped by President Mnangagwa at the University of Zimbabwe.
He earned a Bachelor of Laws Honours (LLBS) degree and was also recognised for his achievements as a person living with a disability.
A seasoned professional with a 31-year track record as a criminal investigator, Kashangura has defied the odds throughout his academic and professional journey.
His other educational achievements include a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration Honours in Police and Security Studies from Bindura University of Science Education in 2016 and a Masters’ in Business Administration from the University of Zimbabwe in 2019.
