More than 1 000 young people in Mutare West are currently undergoing a nurse aide course courtesy of the ruling party, Zanu PF.

In an interview, Zanu PF aspiring candidate for Mutare West Constituency, Cde Nyasha Marange said the programme seeks to complement Government’s efforts of ensuring that health services are easily accessible in line with National Development Strategy (NDS1).

Under NDS1, Zimbabwe is prioritising the wellbeing of its citizenry by increasing access to primary health care.

Cde Marange said the course part of the ruling party’s efforts to empower young people and improve their livelihoods.

He also said the course will prepare graduates to work in the area’s health facilities.

Cde Marange is partially sponsoring the training programme, with sessions being held in various schools across the constituency.

“Our trainees will be deployed to local health institutions for work-related learning and upon completio of the course, they will be deployed across the country.

“We have managed to bring this programme to the community’s doorstep so that the beneficiaries do not have to travel all the way to Mutare or Harare as before.

“We are also providing the course free of charge in order to lighten the financial burden for our people,” he said.

“We have given both males and females an equal chance to register for the course, but it seems the females are more interested than their male counterparts.

“However, we are also conducting a security training programme for 500 youths, which has seen more males taking it up. Our goal is to equip the local young people with skills in line with the mantra of leaving no one and no place behind. We do not want them to be idle and end up abusing drugs,” he said, adding that the traditional leadership has embraced the programme.

A beneficiary, Ms Chido Maitera thanked Zanu PF for empowering her.

“I am very thankful because l did not have the money to take up this course. However, because of Zanu PF, I have been empowered with knowledge and can now take care of the elderly and sick in this community,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Ms Portia Marange commended the revolutionary party for coming up with the programme.

“Women are normally looked down upon, but this initiative will help lift us up. After this, we will be independent. l promise that l will not export my labour but use my skills to benefit my community and country,” she said.

Mr Adonis Nhekairo applauded Government for its efforts to capacitate the youths in rural communities.

“Due to this programme, we look forward to getting employed at hospitals, clinics and even households where our services may be required,” he said.
