MORE than 100 families are being evacuated from seven flood hit medium and low density suburbs in Bulawayo by the Fire Brigade.

The affected suburbs are Manningdale, Riverside, Matshamhlophe, Lockview, Parklands, Killarney and Mahatshula.

Some residents have had to watch as their land and homes get submerged underwater since the heavy rains started two weeks ago and now more than 100 families are being moved as they risk being swept away in their homes by the floods.

The flooding, caused by two weeks of heavy torrential rains, was so severe that many homes have been deemed unsafe by the fire brigade. Homeowners were being advised to leave their homes and take with them retrievable property.

Crops that include potatoes and maize were also destroyed.
