ABOUT 1,000 delegates from Matabeleland region left their provinces yesterday to attend the on-going 14th Zanu-PF Annual National People’s Conference at Chinhoyi University of Technology.
The conference kicked off on Wednesday with a Politburo meeting in Harare and is set for official opening today by Zanu-PF First Secretary and President Cde Mugabe.
At least 300 delegates from Bulawayo boarded buses and private cars at the Zanu-PF provincial headquarters, Davies Hall, at around 11am while Matabeleland North and South provinces had more than 600 delegates combined.
“We look forward to a successful conference,” newly elected Bulawayo provincial secretary for administration Cde Elifasi Mashaba said.
The province goes to the conference on a mission to push for the revival of ailing Bulawayo industries, addressing water shortages, road and housing development as top issues in its resolutions.
Other critical issues on the agenda include the indigenisation drive in the city, re-opening of long closed vocational training centres and developing vibrant health and social services.
Matabeleland North province delegates were also picked up by buses from different stations in the 181 party districts in the afternoon.
“We are going with 301 delegates excluding Politburo and Central Committee members. We have 120 provincial executive members and representatives from 181 districts,” Matabeleland North chairman Cde Richard Moyo said.
Newly elected Matabeleland South provincial spokesperson and MP for Insiza South Cde Malach Nkomo said the province was excited to join thousands of cadres in Chinhoyi.
“We are leaving for Chinhoyi as a delegation of 250 plus. Revamping cattle ranching and developing vibrant irrigation schemes are our top priorities,” Cde Nkomo said adding, “We want to engage our leadership and banks to enhance financing of livestock development. We need to build more dams for irrigation farming because of crop failure due to drought.”
