Bindura Municipality has started consulting ratepayers on projects to prioritise ahead of the disbursement of $105 million devolution funds for its first quarter of the year.
The local authority is looking at projects that will ensure quality service delivery in line with Vision 2030.
Acting Town Clerk Mr Kelton Chinowaita said they are looking at implementing people-centred projects and $60 million will towards water augmentation to ease water challenges in the town.
In this regard he said that they were going to focus on construction of a water pipeline to Masembura Dam and will use devolution funds to revamp water works redistribution and pumps.
Construction of the pipeline from Bindura to Masembura Dam in Bindura South became a priority following heavy siltation of Mazowe River, which was the primary source of water.
ZIMWA, Trojan Nickel mine and Freda Rebecca Mine are assisting the local authority in completing the Masembura water pipeline.
Bindura Municipality has set aside $1 million for the Masembura Dam project.
“We are resuscitating the pumping station at Masembura Dam as this will become our major source of water” he said.
“At Masembura Dam we are servicing the pumps and we have managed to cover 50 percent. We are not using the dam now because Mazowe River has enough water.
“The Masembura Dam project is earmarked for the dry season when water levels in Mazowe River go down. We have desilted the area where we extract our raw water along the river. Timsite Mine is assisting us in the desilting process and providing the equipment.
“We are happy with the assistance we are getting from local companies and we can achieve more if other companies come on board.”
Other developmental projects earmarked by the local authority include completion of Garikai Bridge that links Chiwaridzo Phase 2 and Garikai and $4 million is required for the project.
There are no tower lights and public lights in Bindura and Mr Chinowaita said they are going to attend to that issue.
“We also want to purchase equipment for refuse collection. Bindura doesn’t have a fire tender and purchase of the equipment is also one of our priorities,” he said.
