114-year-old grandma certified world’s oldest living person

Surrounded by family, 114-year-old Cooper accepted a plaque during a small ceremony at a Monroe nursing home last Thursday.

Her son, 75-year-old Sid Cooper, said previously that relatives never imagined she would live to be the world’s oldest person.
Cooper became the oldest living person after the death of Eunice G Sanborn of Texas on January 31, 2011.
That’s according to the Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group that certifies supercentenarians – people who are 110 or older.

Cooper was on August 26, 1896, during the second term of President Grover Cleveland.
She was born Besse Brown in Sullivan County, Tennessee, the third of eight children.
She graduated from East Tennessee Normal School and was a teacher in her native Tennessee before moving to Georgia.
Mrs Cooper married Luther Cooper in 1924, and was widowed in 1963.
As of her 114th birthday she has four children, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. – Daily Mail.
