INVITATIONS have been sent to 120 delegates to attend a Region Five Darts Championships development workshop that will be held in Harare on August 25. The workshop, whose facilitators will come from South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe, will be held on the eve of the 18th edition of the regional championships that will be held in the country up to August 30.
“The workshop is held annually in each and every member country so that people can understand the sole purpose of this sport and do away with the stigma associated with the sport that it’s a boozers’ game,” said the National Darts Association of Zimbabwe (Ndaz) secretary-general Stephen Mwarindira.
The secretary-general said the workshop will benefit Ndaz immensely as it will afford those involved in the training of aspiring darts players an opportunity to get to know more about the sport which in turn will see them cascading that knowledge downwards.
“We have invited representatives from the National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) so that our schools benefit as well as they are the havens for our future players. The schools will benefit from our development programme,” said Mwarindira.
Meanwhile, Ndaz have come up with a provisional list of national team players who will represent the country during the championships.
The final list will be announced after the Heroes’ Holidays tournament that will be held in Mutare.
The final line up will have nine women. It will be five seniors, two Under-25 stars and an equal number of over-50 years players.
“For the men we will have a final list of seven senior players, two Under-25s and the same number for those above 50 years,” said the secretary-general.
Some of the players expected to make it to the final list include red hot Albert Tawanda, his teammates Brian Ndlovu, Nkululeko Ncube, Moses Ndlovu, Ndumiso Tshuma, Patrick Zimidzi from Bulawayo as well as David Nyemba from Mashonaland West.
