A total of 130 non-commissioned members of the Zimbabwe National Army yesterday graduated at Mechanised Brigade Headquarters, Inkomo Barracks, after successfully completing a four-month-long drill and small arms course.
Director ordinance Colonel Kenneth Chihumba, who presided over the graduation ceremony, hailed the soldiers for displaying high levels of discipline during the duration of the gruelling course. He said 133 students initially enrolled for the course and among them 30 were female.
However, three students were given their marching orders due to various reasons.
“The course is the 11th one to be run in this formation since the amalgamation of drill and small arms in 2011 and this is indicative of the required standards,” said Col Chihumba.
“I understand the course graduating today commenced on August 6, 2018 with an initial enrolment of 133 students, drawn from various army formations and units. I have learnt that among this number, 30 were female soldiers and I have been informed this was not a deliberate move to sideline female soldiers, but many could not be accommodated due to a number of constraints.
“The 17 weeks you spent here were worthwhile as witnessed by the well-polished drills you displayed and high level of turnout you exhibited today. “
