A COUPLE’S marriage of 14 years has ended after the man asked for cash from his wife on her pay day and she failed to assist him.

The decree of divorce was granted by Justice Neville Wamambo at the Harare High Court’s Family Court.

The man in question, Gadriel Mazarire was issued with summons for the divorce by his wife Tendai Mazarire nee Mhururu.

Tendai claimed they have been living separately since 2020 and despite seeking counsel they have failed to resolve their differences.

The two got married under the Marriages Act (Chapter 5:11) on November 25, 2006.

Three children aged 17, 15 and 11 months were born out of the marriage.

During the trial, Tendai confirmed that their relationship took an unexpected turn when Gabriel asked for some cash and she was unable to offer him any help.

She told the court that Gabriel flew into a rage shouting obscenities at her and later on at her boss leading to her losing her job.

Gabriel also confirmed that the two had disagreements based on Tendai’s financial contributions describing her as a spectator from the onset of their marriage.

She argued that she was a home carer for both her husband and children. During the subsistence of their marriage the couple had acquired three properties in Gletwin, Belvedere and Epworth Harare, one in Gadzema, Chegutu and another in Randolph Estate, Gweru. However, Justice Wamambo ruled that four of the properties were not part of the matrimonial estate.

“Tendai is awarded a 30 percent share and Gabriel a 70 percent share of the immovable property being Stand 18669 Salisbury Township of Stand 12626 Salisbury Township Lands, Harare which is registered in Gabriel’s name.
