A TOTAL of 15 independent colleges are today competing in the Bulawayo Independent Colleges Association (BICA) track and field athletics competition at White City Stadium.

The event is also serving as a selection platform for a provincial team that will participate in the Zimbabwe Independent Colleges Association (ZICA) national finals, scheduled for Harare at the end of this month. This was confirmed by BICA sports committee chairperson Blessing Takavinga.

“We aim to select our provincial team through this competition. The chosen athletes will represent the province at the national finals from 27 to 28 March in Harare,” said Takavinga.

BICA oversees independent private colleges in Bulawayo, all of which are formally registered with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The colleges competing in the event include Kairos, Agape, Concepts, Leeroy Academy, Emmanuel Light, Beacon of Life, Star Kids, Enkanyisweni, Tropical Vineyard, Junior Kings and Queens, Nudling, Mary Rose, Phillips, Edeni, and Hilltop.

The competition highlights the growing role of independent colleges in fostering athletic talent and providing students with opportunities to excel both academically and in sports.
