A total of 15 officials are part of the World Athletics (WA) Technical Officials Education Certification Systems (TOECS) course that is ongoing at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.
The objective of the course is to educate technical officials on how to interpret as well as apply WA technical rules in both track and field events.
The course, which is being conducted by Enias Nhoro, started on Monday and will end on Friday.
Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) chairperson Watson Madanyika said the province benefits more from hosting such high calibre courses.
“We have participants from different provinces and some from Botswana.
The course is important because it’s recognised internationally and participants will have the full knowledge of officiating after the course.
Our officials should be empowered by such courses as we are looking forward to the full return of athletics next year with the calendar having been disturbed by the Covid-19 pandemic in the last two years,” said Madanyika
He said Bab also has a national level one training course at the same venue at the end of the month.
The course will run from August 26 to 29.
The course has attracted a lot of interest from aspiring coaches who have been working without the qualifications. The registration fee has been pegged at US$50.
Madanyika said: “We are working towards ensuring that we have qualified coaches doing the training specifically at schools. We hope all those that are coaching but are not qualified will take advantage of this opportunity.” — @innocentskizoe
