The teachers who attended the three-day cricket coaches’ beginners’ course are expected to spearhead development of the sport at grassroots level.
Matabeleland Tuskers Cricket Franchise area manager Vumi Moyo and his assistant Victor Mhlanga conducted the clinic.
Moyo said for the sport to develop, they had to train as many people as possible who would then teach aspiring players beginning at primary school level.
“This is part of our development thrust that we discussed in our general meeting. We agreed that for cricket to develop, we need qualified personnel who will spearhead these developmental programmes.
“Schools must have qualified trainers. These people will give proper technical expertise to the players and help produce complete players who have a better understanding of the game,” Moyo said.
He said they will continue to monitor the progress of the coaches also ensure they undergo training at the next level.
Moyo said the Matabeleland Tuskers Cricket Franchise would also send experienced coaches to help the participants during their schools’ training sessions.
The successful graduates were presented with beginners coaching certificates.
