THREE men who attacked a worker at Freda Mine in Gwanda and stole property worth US$450 have been slapped with a combined 15-year jail stretch.
Conilias Ndlovu (36), Junior Sibanda (18), and Renika Takaruva (28) were convicted of robbery by the Gwanda Magistrates’ Court and each sentenced to five years in prison.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the trio struck on 10 August 2025, with three other accomplices who are still on the run.
“The offenders assaulted the victim with a shovel to the head and threatened him with an axe and a sambok before forcibly taking a 100-watt solar panel, a small radio, a shovel, and a cellphone,” read the statement.
Police launched an investigation which led to the arrest of the three and the recovery of some of the stolen property.
They were each sentenced to five years imprisonment, with 11 months suspended on condition of good behaviour and one month suspended on condition that each offender pays restitution of US$50.
The NPAZ has urged communities to work closely with police to stamp out violent crime.
“Your timely intervention can make a significant difference in maintaining public safety,” the statement read.
Authorities are now hunting for the three accomplices still at large, warning that violent crimes will be met with decisive justice.
