NINE people died on the spot and 12 were injured when a Nissan Caravan collided head-on with a Honda Fit along the Harare-Chirundu highway on Monday.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident.
He said bodies of the deceased were taken to Norton Hospital mortuary.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which nine people died while 12 others were injured when a Nissan Caravan vehicle with yet to be established passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a Honda Fit,” he said.
“The Honda Fit had seven passengers on board at the 53km peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road on Monday,” said Ass-Comm Nyathi.
Ass Comm Nyathi said three people were killed in another accident along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.
“In another fatal road traffic accident which occurred on Monday at the 140km peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road, three people were killed while four others were injured,” he said.
“A Toyota Hilux with nine passengers on board veered off the road before hitting the trailer of a Mthethi Dragon Bus with six passengers on board.”
Ass Comm Nyathi said the bodies were taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital mortuary and the injured are admitted to the same hospital.
