DZIDZO Inhaka E-learning and E-learning & Computer Education Trust hosted an Inter-Preschools Computer Skills Competition aimed at educating kindergarten kids on new technology systems.

The competition was held yesterday at Mother Touch Institution and attended by 16 schools.

The founder and director of Dzidzo Inhaka, Shepherd Chimururi, said they staged the competitions under the CoSci E-sports to complement efforts by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to achieve the objectives of STEM based Education 5.0.

“CoSci E-sports simply means Computer Science E-sports.

“The purpose of computer e-sports is to revolutionise how computers are taught in schools and to accelerate the growth of e-learning in schools through incentive-based learning,” he said.

Chimururi said previous competitions, held in 2017, proved that e-sports trigger interest and motivate key stakeholders such as students, teachers and parents.

“We are very happy with the way people responded to our event.

“This shows that people appreciate our work and want to help in spreading e-sports.

“This is our innovative way, as the private sector, to support the Ministry of Education with an E-sport that catches infant learners young,” he said.

He said the competition was important because it helped children understand technology.

“Students will accumulate a lot of knowledge as part of ICT as a subject, but with these competitions, we are creating a platform to showcase that knowledge in a sporting environment.

“There are some schools that are reluctant to teach practical computer lessons.

“But, because of the introduction of e-sports, they are itching to join us and we are happy because at the end of the day, the little students will benefit,” he said.
