Father poisons children, kills self over paternity

A Lower Gweru man laced his three minor children’s porridge with poison before committing suicide in a nearby bush following a misunderstanding with his wife.

Bongani Mahole, 37, had custody of the children aged 12, eight and seven after his wife left him after the misunderstanding.

The three children are in a serious condition at Gweru Provincial Hospital.

Mahole had questioned the children’s paternity and his wife suggested they sell one beast to fund DNA tests.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said:

“The deceased cooked some porridge, laced it with poison and gave it to the children. he immediately left home and was found hanging from a tree in a nearby bush.

“The children were rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where they are receiving treatment.”
