SEVENTEEN Mbare men appeared in court yesterday for participating in public violence at Mupedzanhamo Market.
They are allegedly fighting for control of vending stalls.
The suspects, Taurai Mbidzo, Norest Gwangwava, William Masomera, Beverly Chimedza, George Raphel, Muza Bornface, Hwahwa Mbariro, Albert Murambadoro, Brighton Nyamadziro, Norman Kasi, Ronald Mutyambira, Tatenda Matamba, Thembelami Chibva, Eastern Chimombe, Edmore Mandovha, Freedom Hodhera and Morgan Chinake, were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

The court heard that the 17 belong to two factions, fighting for control of vending stalls, at Mupedzanhamo.
The court heard that they engaged in running battles, armed with sticks and stones, during the pandemonium, which displaced other traders.
They allegedly stoned parked vehicles, blocked traffic and assaulted innocent people going about their business.
They were all arrested after being identified as instigators of the chaotic scenes by witnesses.
Meanwhile, Kasi and Mandovha also appeared before the same court on charges of malicious damage to property.
They are alleged to have battered a trader and burnt his wares, which included second-hand clothing.
