A 17-year-old boy from Zimre Park, Ruwa, was arraigned before the Harare Magistrates Court for defrauding high school students of US$2 640.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, sometime in July 2024, the boy posed as a member of the junior Parliament, promising students a chance to join the Junior Motivators Southern African Development Community (SADC) Parliament program.
He allegedly charged them US$62 for registration and uniforms and US$50 for a camping trip to Domboshava Resort.
After receiving payments, the court heard that the boy disappeared until the matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
The total amount involved was US$2 640 and nothing was recovered.
The boy was released into the custody of his guardian and the matter was remanded to September 5, 2024.
