A total of 172 officers drawn from the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services (ZPCS) and Namibian Defence Forces (NDF) yesterday graduated with certificates at the Zimbabwe School of Military Police.
The Zimbabwe School of Military Police is housed at Headquarters One Brigade in Bulawayo.
During their training the officers covered courses such as provost officers, provost senior non-commissioned officers, senior investigation, basic military police, provost traffic, basic martial arts course pro and regimental police.
The basic martial arts course was introduced in September and is meant to equip the military police with skills on how to defend themselves when dealing with offenders who would be resisting arrest.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Brigadier-General Chrispen Masuku (Quarter Master General Staff) said the graduating officers were equipped with knowledge on how to handle themselves during peace and wartimes.
Brig-Gen Masuku commended the cooperation by members of different defence forces, saying their unity encouraged sharing of information.
“This integration during training ensures cross pollination of ideas, knowledge and experiences which is good for our organisations and countries at large,” he said.
Brig-Gen Masuku said ZNA was working on addressing the challenges faced by officers during their training.
“I am informed that you faced a number of challenges among them lack of training aids, barrack room equipment and suitable accommodation. The organisation is aware of those challenges and efforts are under way to adequately address them,” he said.
